I became a physician out of a genuine love for helping people. From the beginning, I’ve been drawn to understanding the whole person—their story, experiences, and unique path to health.
From Academic Medicine to Deep Dive Care
After earning my M.D. from Harvard Medical School and completing my Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, I joined the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, and later at Stanford University, caring for patients and teaching the next generation of physicians.
While I loved academic medicine, I often felt constrained by the system itself. In fifteen-minute visits, it was nearly impossible to uncover the root causes of complex symptoms or chronic illnesses. I wanted to offer patients something deeper: time, curiosity, and a comprehensive understanding of their health.
A Personal Journey to Root Cause Medicine
Outside of work, my curiosity led me to the kitchen. I discovered a passion for creating nutrient-dense, flavorful meals, often reinventing world-class recipes into healthier versions. Nutrition became my gateway into a broader understanding of how food, environment, genetics, and lifestyle interact to influence health and longevity.
Then, in 2017, a close family member was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis—a life-changing moment that deepened my search for answers. He didn’t fit the typical profile, and I began exploring how genetics, environmental toxins, dysbiosis, viral infections, diet, and stress might contribute to autoimmunity. A year later, when my son developed severe infantile eczema, I poured myself into understanding the underlying mechanisms of inflammation and immune dysregulation, and ways to heal the body naturally.
Through these personal and professional experiences, I came to believe that the body wants to heal—it simply needs the right support. By identifying and addressing the root causes of illness early on, we can often reverse dysfunction, restore balance, and renew vitality.
An Integrative Approach to Whole-Person Health
Today, my work blends evidence-based conventional medicine with functional medicine, mind-body medicine, nutrition science, lifestyle medicine, and genomics. I take a comprehensive, personalized approach that examines how genetics, environment, and lived experience shape health over time.
As an integrative medicine physician serving patients across the Bay Area (Northern California) and Treasure Valley (Idaho), I provide the extended consultation time, depth, and breadth that define Deep Dive Medicine.
